Auf halber Strecke, etwa 50 km vor Prag, machten wir in dem traditionsreichen Jagd-Restaurant „Stara Myslivna” Mittagspause. Wir speisten hervorragendes Wild, darunter Damhirschbraten und -steak, Fasan und Rehragout.

Nach unserem wirklich letzten gemeinsamen Essen ging es zügig weiter, denn es war immerhin schon 17 Uhr und wir hatten noch 360 Kilometer vor uns. Gegen 22 Uhr kamen wir schließlich alle geschafft, aber gesund an der Hügelschule an.

After ten days of intensive work on our projects and getting to know Slovakia, we set off for home after our last breakfast. We didn’t mind that the weather had gotten worse since Wednesday.

Halfway there, about 50 km before Prague, we stopped for lunch at the traditional hunting restaurant “Stara Myslivna.” We dined on excellent wild game, including roast fallow deer and steak, pheasant, and venison ragout.

After our very last meal together, we continued on quickly, as it was already 5 p.m. and we still had 360 kilometers to go. Around 10 p.m., we finally arrived at the Hügelschule, exhausted but healthy.

Anschließend zog es uns noch zum Werksverkauf unseres Lieblingstees, dem Tatratea. Leider war die Führung durch die Destillerie bereits ausgebucht, aber wir wurden immerhin freundlich im Laden empfangen. Mit Teeflaschen, Shotgläsern und Flachmännern eingedeckt, fuhren wir zum letzten Mal zurück nach Donovaly.

Ein letztes gemeinsames Abendessen mit Burgern, Steaks und selbst gebrautem Bier genossen wir in unserer Lieblingskneipe, dem Donovalský Pivovar.

On our last day before departure, we visited the town castle in Kežmarok in eastern Slovakia. We took part in a German-language tour, which gave us interesting insights into the centuries-old history of the castle.

Afterwards, we were drawn to the factory outlet of our favorite tea, Tatratea. Unfortunately, the tour of the distillery was already fully booked, but we were still given a friendly welcome in the shop. Stocked up with tea bottles, shot glasses, and hip flasks, we drove back to Donovaly for the last time.

We enjoyed a final dinner together with burgers, steaks, and home-brewed beer in our favorite pub, the Donovalský Pivovar.

Nach der erfolgreichen Präsentation unseres Projekts vor unseren slowakischen Gästen, dem Schulleiter und den Lehrern aßen und tranken wir alle zusammen und stießen auf uns, unser Projekt und die Zusammenarbeit unserer Schulen an.

Den Abend ließen wir gemütlich ausklingen, hatten viel Spaß zusammen und genossen die gemeinsame Zeit – auch wenn wir dabei merkten, dass unsere Reise nun wirklich dem Ende entgegengeht…

Our project came to an end on the ninth day in Slovakia. After the unsuccessful barbecue on Wednesday, we borrowed another grill from our partner school and prepared our own marinated barbecue food with fresh salads.

After successfully presenting our project to our Slovakian guests, the headmaster, and the teachers, we all ate and drank together and toasted to ourselves, our project, and the cooperation between our schools.

We ended the evening in a relaxed atmosphere, had a lot of fun together, and enjoyed the time we spent together—even though we realized that our trip was now really coming to an end…

Da bei den meisten Projekten nicht mehr viel Arbeit übrig war und wir insgesamt auf einem sehr guten Stand waren, wurde nun zusätzliche Personalkraft in die Bild- und Videoerstellung gesteckt, damit wir sowohl für das Projekt als auch für die Freizeitaktivitäten ein schönes Abschlussvideo haben.

Die LED-Matrix konnte inzwischen zuverlässig GIFs und selbst erstellte Bilder darstellen – unabhängig von der Auflösung. Wir haben vor Ort Fotos von uns gemacht und die verschiedenen Porträts anschließend als GIF auf der 32 × 32 Matrix abgespielt. Geplant war, diese Funktion auch bei der Präsentation vorzuführen, mit freiwilligen Fotos der SOS-IT-Lehrer.

Das Reaktionsspiel und das Abstandsmessungs-Spiel wurden vor der Präsentation noch einmal getestet und so vorbereitet, dass unsere Gäste die beiden Spiele selbst ausprobieren konnten.

Finally, the time has come: the final day of our project work! At 5 p.m. the big event begins – the teams are putting the finishing touches on their projects, and everyone is giving their very best. Everyone knows: today everything has to be ready. At 9 a.m., all participants gathered one last time in the dining hall of Villa Gloria to prepare everything for the big evening.

Since most projects required only minor work and we were overall in a very good position, additional manpower was directed toward creating photos and videos so that we would have a beautiful final video showcasing both the project and the leisure activities.

The LED Matrix was now able to reliably display GIFs and self-created images, regardless of resolution. We took photos of ourselves on site and played the various portraits as a GIF on the 32 × 32 matrix. The plan was to demonstrate this feature during the presentation as well, using voluntary photos of the SOS-IT teachers.

The reaction game and the distance-measuring game were tested once again before the presentation and prepared so that our guests could try out both games themselves.

Nicht alles verlief im Projekt reibungslos. So musste die Idee, ein Snake-Spiel auf der Matrix anzuzeigen, verworfen werden, da die verbleibende Zeit nicht ausreichte, um die technischen Probleme zu lösen. Dennoch gab es wie gewohnt auch Fortschritte: Ein Python-Skript wurde entwickelt, das automatisch JPEG-Dateien auf der 32 × 32 Matrix anzeigen kann.

Da der Montag die letzte Gelegenheit bot, die schulische Ausrüstung zu nutzen, nutzte das Team des Reaktionsspiels diese Chance und verklebte die einzelnen Komponenten mit der Heißklebepistole. Allerdings erwies sich der Kleber als nicht ganz zuverlässig, da sich einige Teile nach kurzer Zeit wieder lösten.

Auch das Guess the Distance Game nähert sich seiner finalen Form: Ein Display und ein Drehregler wurden eingebaut, die losen Teile innerhalb des Gehäuses (Ultraschallsensoren, Arduino) festgeklebt und ein Deckel auf dem Case montiert.

After the adventurous weekend in Bratislava and the High Tatras, it was time for the teams to get back to work on their projects. With the deadline approaching, everyone now has to give their best and decide what can realistically still be achieved.

Not everything in the project went smoothly. The idea of displaying a Snake game on the matrix had to be abandoned, as there wasn’t enough time left to solve the technical issues. Nevertheless, there were also the usual successes: a Python script was developed that can automatically display JPEG files on the 32 × 32 matrix.

Since Monday was the last chance to use the school equipment, the reaction game team took the opportunity to glue the individual components together with a hot glue gun. However, the adhesive proved to be less reliable than expected, as some parts came loose again after a short time.

The Guess the Distance game is also nearing its final form: a display and a rotary knob were installed, the loose components inside the case (ultrasonic sensors, Arduino) were secured with glue, and a lid was mounted on the housing.

Von dort aus ging es in die Altstadt von Banská Bystrica, wo wir Herrn Buchheim und Frau Jungheinrich eine Stadtführung gaben. Vom Uhrenturm Hodinová veža aus hatten wir einen tollen Blick über die gesamte Stadt.

Danach füllten wir im Tesco einen kompletten Einkaufswagen für unser Abschlussessen mit unseren slowakischen Gästen nach der Projektpräsentation. Zurück in der Villa Gloria arbeiteten wir noch bis 19 Uhr am Projekt weiter, bevor wir zum Abendessen nach Donovaly aufbrachen.

After a short but intensive period of work on the project, we got a guided tour through the nearby Urpiner brewery. We gained authentic insights into the production, brewing, storage, and bottling of beer. We saw the warm mash in the mash tun and the storage in huge tanks in the cold store. Of course, a tasting was also a must—directly from the storage. It doesn’t get any fresher than that!

From there, we went to the old town of Banská Bystrica, where we gave Mr. Buchheim and Ms. Jungheinrich a guided tour of the city. From the Hodinová veža clock tower, we had a great view of the entire city.

Afterwards, we filled a whole shopping cart at Tesco for our final dinner with our Slovakian guests after the project presentation. Back at Villa Gloria, we continued working on the project until 7 p.m. before heading to Donovaly for dinner.

Danach konnten wir die Innenstadt auf eigene Faust erkunden. Zunächst genossen wir einen Eiskaffee, dann unternahmen wir eine kurze Tour zu weiteren Sehenswürdigkeiten wie der St.-Elisabeth-Kirche (auch „Blaue Kirche” genannt) und dem Präsidentenpalais. Den Abschluss bildete ein slowakisches Abendessen in der Altstadt.

In der Zwischenzeit holten Frau Rammelt und Herr Neunemann die Neuankömmlinge, Frau Jungheinrich und Herrn Buchheim, ab. Mit inzwischen voll besetzten Bussen fuhren wir zurück nach Donovaly.

On Sunday, we were allowed to sleep in until 8 a.m. for the first time. After breakfast, we drove to the capital city of Bratislava, close to the border with Austria and Hungary. Of course, we visited the city and its sights—but in a slightly different way, combined with lots of fun: on Segways! Our tour took us from Janko Kral Garden to Bratislava Castle, which offers a beautiful view of the entire city, and then on to the Slovak Parliament.

Afterwards, we were able to explore the city center on our own. First, we enjoyed an iced coffee, then we took a short tour to other sights such as St. Elizabeth’s Church (also known as the “Blue Church”) and the Presidential Palace. The day ended with a Slovakian dinner in the old town.

In the meantime, Ms. Rammelt and Mr. Neunemann picked up the new arrivals, Ms. Jungheinrich and Mr. Buchheim. With the buses now full, we drove back to Donovaly.

Die Hardcore-Gruppe mit Herrn Neunemann folgte der Wanderroute 3. Auf der 16,26 km langen, felsigen und anspruchsvollen Strecke überwand sie beachtliche 1.049 Höhenmeter und erreichte in einer Höhe von 2.377 m über dem Meeresspiegel den Bystré sedlo, wo sich ein atemberaubender Ausblick bot. Nach „nur“ vier Stunden Aufstieg tranken wir gemeinsam oben einen Gipfelschnaps, um unseren Erfolg zu feiern. Die gesamte Tour kostete uns anstrengende 7,5 Stunden, aber alle schafften es erfolgreich über den Berg und können stolz auf sich sein!

Die Easy-Gruppe um Frau Rammelt wurde vom Lift auf 1.800 m gebracht. Von dort aus ging es auf einem steinigen Weg knapp 300 Höhenmeter auf den Predné Solisko hinauf. Bei einem atemberaubenden Ausblick auf die Hohe Tatra und darüber hinaus verweilten wir auf dem Gipfel.

Während die Easy-Gruppe bereits auf dem Weg nach Banská Bystrica war, um dort zu Abend zu essen, stärkte sich die Hardcore-Gruppe noch vor Ort direkt nach der Wanderung.

The weekend began with a special highlight of the week: hiking in the High Tatras in the Carpathians. Divided into “Easy” and “Hardcore” groups, we split up at Štrbské Pleso mountain lake in the hiking area of the same name.

The hardcore group with Mr. Neunemann followed hiking route 3. On the 16.26 km long, rocky, and challenging trail, they conquered a remarkable 1,049 meters of elevation and reached Bystré sedlo at an altitude of 2,377 m above sea level, where they were rewarded with a breathtaking view. After “only” four hours of climbing, we drank a summit schnapps together to celebrate our success. The entire tour took us a strenuous 7.5 hours, but everyone made it successfully over the mountain and can be proud of themselves!

The easy group led by Ms. Rammelt was taken by lift to 1,800 m. From there, we climbed a rocky path for almost 300 meters to Predné Solisko. We stayed at the summit, enjoying a breathtaking view of the High Tatras and beyond. While the easy group was already on their way to Banská Bystrica for dinner, the hardcore group had dinner on site right after the hike.

Um den Tag gemütlich ausklingen zu lassen, gingen wir am Abend in Donovaly lecker essen. Eine Gruppe erlebte sogar eine traditionelle slowakische Band mit Kontrabass, Saxophon, Geige, Klarinette, Akkordeon und Gesang.

On the first truly sunny day of our trip, we finally went rafting on the Hron River today after completing our work on the project. Together with three Slovakian teachers and one student, we divided ourselves among the three boats. After taking one last dry group photo, we headed straight to the river to begin our adventure. After a short time, several small water fights broke out. One boat was particularly enthusiastic and managed to completely soak the other two boats. Our tour lasted about three hours and by the end everyone was soaked from head to toe, but that was no problem in this weather.

To round off the day in style, we went out for a delicious meal in Donovaly in the evening. One group even got to experience a traditional Slovakian band with double bass, saxophone, violin, clarinet, accordion, and vocals.

Nachdem es gelungen war, Pixelbilder im Format 32 × 32 auf der LED-Matrix darzustellen, setzte sich die Gruppe LED Matrix als nächstes Ziel, zunächst GIFs auf der Fläche anzuzeigen und anschließend eine spielbare Version von Snake für die Matrix zu programmieren.

Für den Abstandsmesser begannen unterdessen die ersten Testläufe. Da sowohl der Code als auch das Gehäuse für den Arduino fertiggestellt waren, arbeitete das Team sogar während des freiwilligen Ausflugs nach Bratislava fleißig weiter an seinem Projekt.

Parallel dazu entwickelte das Team des Reaktionsspiels, dessen LED-Ring bereits spielbar war, eine Box für das zugehörige Display. Dieses zeigt Leben, Score und Highscore an. Die Box wurde bereits am Freitag fertig gedruckt, sodass das Team nun erfolgreich über eine vollständige Displayeinheit für sein Spiel verfügt.

With this Friday, the first week of the Erasmus project comes to an end. Both within the individual teams and as a group, we have made significant progress and look forward with confidence to completing the projects successfully within the planned timeframe. Looking back on the week, it is clear that everyone can be proud of their own work.

After successfully displaying 32 × 32 pixel images on the LED matrix, the LED Matrix group set its next goal: first to show GIFs on the display and then to program a playable version of Snake for the matrix.

Meanwhile, the distance sensor team began its first test runs. Since both the code and the housing for the Arduino had been completed, the team continued to work diligently on the project—even during the voluntary excursion to Bratislava.

At the same time, the reaction game team, whose LED ring was already playable, developed a box for the corresponding display. This display shows lives, score, and high score. The box was successfully 3D-printed on Friday, so the team now has a fully functional display unit for their game.
